Reason for building/tell us the story behind it from your views. Why this vehichle, what was your motivation and any stories you want to share along it’s process. =
This truck was mine and my fathers common ground. Something we both were interested in. the years he owned it I would help him where I could work on it and made it his own. It was the first vehicle I drove the day I got my leaners permit at the age of 16. I knew I would always do my best to keep this truck in the family. As I built this truck I wanted to stay true to what he built but with my own twist. The only visual differences from when he owned the truck is the cowl hood. Wheels tires and stance. The hand built stainless grill he built 20 years ago still is in the truck. The power flush mount tonneau cover was done 20 years ago as well by pros pick and I believe this was the truck they used for there proto type but don’t quote me on that. The shaved tail gate with suburban full piece trim panel tail gate release moved to the inside of the tail gate was done over 30 yeas ago.
Name of Ride and story behind it =
The truck has aways been referred to as the little black truck. I have toyed around with other names like johnny cash since my fathers name is John. The truck is black and the amount of cash that has gone in this truck over the years LOL
The story behind the truck was always to build a good looking driver that was comfortable. handled well and was quick. 1990,s technologies and at 4000 lbs made that impossible to accomplish. if it was quick and fun to drive it got horrible fuel milage and wasn’t reliable. If it got good fuel milage and was reliable it wasn’t that fun to drive. That’s what I set out to accomplish with this build. I started with the air ride suspension. I made and installed a 4 link rear suspension with pan hard bar set up and added a antisway bar kit from welders series. Made my own C notch. Installedned front tubular upper and lower control arms made plates and clearance lower control arms to fit the front air bags. Made are own auto leveling air control system with the help of a friend of mine Mueeb Abdullah. Who also help design other suspension components. Raised the box inner wheel wells 5 inches cut out and made the tunnel for the C notch weld and grafted everything in place. Clearance front fenders. Made welded and grafted in filler plates on front inner fenders. After frame modifications were made pulled the truck bed cab and front fender off and sent them to Ron at royal fix autobody collision in kitchener to be stripped down to bear metal and have the bodywork and paint completed Ron and his team did a beautiful job! I decided to go with a 6.0 liter LS with a 4L80E transmission. Ritche and his guys at tricity transmissions built a killed transmission for me with a 3200 TCI billet triple dice torque converter. Next was the engine. A reched out to Paul Thornton at Brine tooley racing for all the engine components for the build. K1 steel crank and forged H beam rods. Dimond forged pistons. Trick flow 225 cylinder heads BTR 224/235 duration 612 lift with 113 lobe separation.LS7 lifters. BTR shaft rocker arm set up. Fast LSXR 102 intake. Nick Williams drive by wire 102 throttle body so I could retain my cruise control. Once I got all my parts together Glen and Paul and forest and forest racing did a amazing job and looked after all the machine work and engine assembly. The frame got blasted and all suspension components got powder coated by JP powder coating. Once assembled with all new trim. Glass. seals. wirring I dyno matted the hole inside of the truck. All new dash. Carpet trim and dash bezzle from LMC was installed. As I was quick to find out I was not able to find a aftermarket center consel I like so I ended up spending 1 mount of trail and error and with the help of the guys at herman,s auto trim I made my own center concel that tied into the TMI seats and upper center concel I installed. The audio system was looked after by trent and auto concepts in kitchener where they installed a complete kenwood audio system. The truck than went to unit 2 fabrication to have the air intake and the exhaust system completed witch turned out incredible. Next was to get it running and for that I turned to Eric Lavigne at Lavigne motorsports. He quickly got it running good enough to drive it to his shop and tune the drivablilty and power. After it all was said and done it made 512 wheel HP AND 507 ftlbs of toque. And the drivabilty is spot on. All in all am very happy with the outcome of the truck it runs beautifuly. Its Surprisingly quick. drives and handles very nice and get 19 miles a gallon. I thick I checked all the boxes! Special thanks to Rick haist for allowing me to use his shop for the complete build. Without him I would never had got it done. Glen and paul and forest and forest racing, Mitch and berto from unit 2 Fabrication. Eric Lavigne at Lavigne motorsports. Ron at Royal autobody fix auto centers. Trant from auto concepts. Herman.s auto trim. Ritchie at tricity transmissions. JP powder coating. Paul at brian tooley racing. And my old man John Stanley for allowing me to build the truck in my style but still respect and honor the part of him that’s still in that truck.
